Last week’s Personalised Jewellery gift ideas, got us thinking here at Solo Living, about taking things a little bit further down the bespoke road. Perhaps you would like creating and making jewellery gifts for friends, family and loved ones? Especially if you have been inspired to become part of the creative maker culture during this time as we consider what to do while spending more time at home.

It can be a really productive and positive way to focus and, a little like knitting. Almost meditative, while learning some new skills and hopefully having a large chunk of fun at the same time while planning and organising for the Christmas gift-giving season. Can you imagine the fantastic sense of achievement you would feel?
Sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge to take that first step on new journeys, so we have searched out some inspo and ideas to help jewellery making.
Gift-giving items that do not require sizing can be a good idea when trying to get a gift right the first time – buying wrong sizes and guessing sizing has created lots of additional “gift work” for me over the years- and this would be even more of a challenge if you decide to create the gift yourself!
Here are a few ideas for making jewellery – from simple to expert, with all gifts known to be accompanied with a large dose of your treasured time.
These really cute crochet necklaces & bracelets – friendship bracelets for all year round can be just the thing to make someone’s day and are lovely little stocking fillers or table setting ideas too. Perhaps your nieces or friend’s daughter would like one?
And for adventurous stylists, the chunky necklace options can be very statement – and also update simple sweaters with a seasonal pop.
Bracelets work for everyone – that is why they are such a great gift! Lovely messages and thoughts with every tie the wearer catches a glance!
Crochet bracelets are a fantastic gift, but can be really special with hidden meanings in the colours to communicate and create memories- this kit also receives accolades for being easy to follow and can be a great place to start on the crochet journey.
If you want to test the water, this beginner starting kit is a good way to see if you have the patience and motivation for making, without too heavy an investment.
And if you find it a fun and fresh way to make gifts, as well as adding a personal touch, you can migrate to this!
Moving away from colourful fun pieces to more “serious” jewellery, this series of bracelets and necklaces, offers an introduction to creating precious metal pieces, with a supportive step by step approach.
These bracelets are a little less of a statement but also offer a maker all the pieces and tools to create the gifts which are great support. The jet bead kits creating a dramatic option.
And this set is so pretty, you might want to get two of these and keep one as a self-gift!
As do these pearl kit options, which could be very exciting to create multi-strings or super statement lengths as a special one-off gift for friends.
This beautiful, delicate necklace really underlines what can be created, even by new jewellers, and it had a great tutorial guide to support as does this bracelet.
If the process inspires you to take more steps in this creative journey some books might be a great idea to help you take it to the next level:
For the more serious amongst you who may have discovered a calling.
One final gift in Week Three of For The Love of Christmas Gift-Giving Week – can be one or all of these beautiful books, as a gift or an inspirational self-gift for you as a jeweller:
P.S. We have not forgotten earrings! They deserve a whole day to themselves, so please tune in for a quick list of some of the best earring making kits for the friends and loved ones who, you know, love to have fun with earring looks.
