With a little social distance (for now) but a lot of hearty connection with a difference.
Twelve Weeks of Christmas Gifting and Making
How many weeks before the Christmas season do you normally start planning your gift-giving? Some of us start when we see something special that we think someone close to us might like. Some of us start the day before, rushing around with the excitement, stress and adrenalin rush it can bring.
However, this year is not normal for all of us. With all the challenges, there are silver linings out there offering new moments to reset and create a new and better normal. Every week between now and Christmas Day we will deliver some loving gift-giving inspiration with a focus on making, handcrafting, small craft makers and sustainability because doing so aligns with Solo Living’s core beliefs to live well.
Gift-giving is one of the ancient and fundamental parts of being human – a signal of love, affection, appreciation. It should be a joy for all and a layer of connection in our human relations.
In 2020, as the normal calendars have expanded, contorted and collapsed, the opportunity to re-create the Christmas Gift-Giving season has presented itself to us.
Here at Solo Living, we thought we would explore some new ways of working on gifts and the build-up to the end of the year. Moving away from stress and towards a new joy of giving and receiving (More on that soon!) A shift in our focus towards some of the little things we do have within our control.
As we Solos may plan to stay home during the colder months (for reasons we know all too well), our first little journey into Christmas Gift-Giving 2020, will explore the golden opportunity of making gifts with your hands and hearts. Gifting and pouring your time into projects for unique, one-of-a-kind results.
We reckon making your own gifts can really enhance our connectivity to our friends and loved ones and the community around us. Every gift made from the heart makes each giving moment all the more special. As special as each of our “giftees” are to us.
It is said it can take around 48 hours to make a Hermès Birkin bag and the value this time and craftsmanship adds to the end result. Each gift you give to someone can mean just as much.
We have focused on a twelve-week timeline so you can decide when you would like to get started. First up, will be homemade projects we believe with around 12 weeks to go, you will have a manageable amount of time to have those gifts under the tree! Why have 12 Days of a Christmas Gift-Giving Season when you can have 12 weeks!
We would love to see your gift ideas and creations to inspire us and each other. Share your tips and inspiration in our Facebooks Group – Super Solos or add a post to our Facebook page at Solo Living. Feel free to add your comments on our weekly Christmas Gift-Giving posts.
It is a tumultuous year – no doubt about it – but we hope to bring you some joy making Christmas memorable for some beautiful reasons too.
